According to a Nissan press release, Nissan and NEC have formed a new company. AESC (Automotive Energy Supply Corporation) will mass produce lithium-ion batteries.
With a set of unique properties that makes them a highly competitive and appealing energy-generation solution for automotive application. Among the multiple advantages that the new batteries will offer are cutting-edge and environmentally-friendly technology, cost competitiveness, superior performance, safety, and versatility.
I must have missed mention of the joint venture by Green Car Congress when it was announced in April. With delay in release of lithium manganese batteries for the Toyota Plug-in HV or standard HEV, and a statement of intent by Nissan to become a serious competitor in the hybrid market, I have become more attuned to the what Nissan possibly could produce.
