Someone’s brain just popped in Toronto during Pierre L?vy‘s keynote address at the Internet Research 4.0 conference. L?vy, who currently holds the Canada Research Chair on Collective Intelligence at the University of Ottawa, gave a presentation about the concept of Collective Intelligence.

What is Collective Intelligence?
According to Tadeusz Szuba, collective intelligence is “a specific property of a social structure, initialized when individuals organize, acquiring the ability to solve more complex problems than individuals can. This property amplifies if the social structure improves its synergy.”

To quote from Elena Maceviciute’s review of David Bell’s An Introduction to Cyberculture, cyberspace is “a product and a producer of culture”; thus, the rise of cybercultures results in the greater development of collective intelligence dependent upon the human-machine interface.
