Groovy Green tell us about another example of renewable, sustainable parking.
The Patagonia clothing company “recently installed a large solar photovoltaic carport at its headquarters in Ventura, California. It is a 66.6 kW Sharp Solar system, which incorporates 360, 185-watt Sharp panels on three custom-built carports that will provide twelve percent of the power for its headquarters and much-appreciated sheltered parking for employees.
Patagonia utilizes various forms of renewable energy, including solar electricity and wind power for its facilities worldwide. In June 1999, under the Million Solar Roofs Initiative, Patagonia unveiled the first solar energy system at its Reno service center.
A Million Solar Roofs Initiative often includes photovoltaics and solar thermal systems, passive solar design, high efficiency windows and radiant barriers.
We should be seeing more examples of solar roofing in California and elsewhere.
Why California in particular? World Changing recently reported on CPUC’s (California Public Utilities Commission) approval of a massive new program to support the expansion of solar power in the state. The California Solar Initiative authorized USD$2.8 billion for solar power retrofits and USD$400 million for new construction.
