
ALTERNATIVE ENERGY BLOG tells us that China is investing billions to reduce importation of energy (primarily oil) and pollution from energy generation.
From every indication the introduction of clean coal technologies not only would benefit China, since coal provides some 70 percent of their electricity, but also the world since China is the second-largest energy consumer and producer of greenhouse gases.
Some of the clean energy technologies in which China is investing include:
China has set a goal of getting 15 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020, though it has acknowledged that coal will remain its primary source of electricity for decades to come.
* China now has the largest dam in the world. The Three Gorges Dam is 185 meters (610 feet) high and 2.3 kilometers (1.3 miles) wide.
