A New York Times article said Governor Cuomo’s administration wants to allow fracking in the deepest areas of the Marcellus Shale and only in towns that agree to it.

People protesting outside the State Office Building in Binghamton fear that surrounding areas could be hydrofracking “guinea pigs. “

Sue Rapp of Vestal Residents for Safe Energy is concerned about public health.

“If gas drilling is unsafe for the New York City Water Shed, and other parts of New York State, it is unsafe everywhere,” said Rapp.

Action News spoke with Governor Cuomo’s office, which says there is “no plan as of yet. “

The Department of Environmental Conservation has not yet finalized permitting regulations.
